Bukowski Charles

Summary

Charles Bukowski: The captain went out to lunch and the sailors took over the ship

In his poetic diary entries that he kept in the last years of his life, Bukowski casually spills his insightful life wisdom about death, money, drink, horse racing... revealing some lesser-known details from his private life along the way. It is also worth mentioning here the excellent illustrations by the underground comics champion Robert Crumb, and the lesser-known continuations of the author's diary and the exclusive foreword by his wife Linda Lee, prepared for this edition by the translator Vojo Šindolić, give additional value to this edition of "Colorful Shop". However, the author himself says the best about himself:
Death tickles the soles of my feet, announces its presence to me. I'm an old fart, nothing more. Well, I didn't manage to kill myself with alcohol. I was close, but I didn't make it. I deserve to live now with what's left...
When you're 71 you never know when your head will explode through the windshield. I still get fairly drunk from time to time, and I smoke a lot more than I should. The body is angry with me for such behavior, but the mind also needs to be fed from time to time. And the soul. Drink is food for my mind and my soul...
I remember a long angry letter I received one day from a man who wrote to me that I had no right to say that I don't like Shakespeare. Because too many young people will believe me and won't bother to read Shakespeare. And that I had no right to take such freedom. And so on. I didn't answer him. But I will answer him on this occasion: Fuck you, man! And I don't even like Tolstoy!
