Milutin Bojić - izabrane pjesme

Isailović Ivan

Summary

Milutin Bojić - selected poems

Editor: Ivan Isailović

Known and celebrated primarily as the author of "The Blue Tomb", a poetic eulogy for Serbian soldiers who ended their lives far from their homeland, their bodies thrown into the blue depths of the Ionian Sea, Milutin Bojić unjustifiably remained in the shadow of the great predecessors of poetic role models, Dučić and Rakić. Nevertheless, the sensuality of his love lyrics, intellectuality and introspection, the drama of patriotic verses based on national, biblical and classical myths and legends devoted to general questions of the meaning of human existence on earth, ranks him among the best Serbian poets. Rhythmic and sonorous verses, expressive and sumptuous images, inner charge and strength, define the vitality of a noisy young man who resists life and singing with inertia, using the fear of transience as a driving force, not a paralyzing force. The love that Bojić sings about is not a sublimated and ethereal longing, nor does it look for an alibi in mysticism, but is sensual, physical, the one that touches, stuns, that "gives with passion". Occasional accents of melancholy and doubt are therefore present only to restrain the decorativeness and rhetoric, sentimental sighs and filled fugues of this sumptuous soulful mosaic, and by wavering make more convincing the poetic subjectivism that shouts from every pore: "I want you, Life"
