Posljednji javni zapisi Thomasa F.

Askildsen Kjell

Summary

Kjell Askildsen: The last public writings of Thomas F.

In the short stories of this book, Askildsen shows himself to be a real "filigree artist", that is, a "literary chamber musician", as a Norwegian literary critic called him.

In addition to the title story made up of ten short and relatively connected episodes that tell about the lonely life of an old man with a whole series of misanthropic reflections, there is also the story of Carl Lange in which, among other things, is expressed by the writer's "excavation of man's sense of identity."

The exciting process that takes place in this story is associated with Kafka's reading, but also with Dostoevsky, with his Crime and Punishment. Many consider that the prose book The Last Public Records of Thomas F., published in 1983, is not only Askildsen's best book, but also one of the best books in Norwegian literature published in the 80s and 90s.

Recently, in a survey of literary experts and readers, this book was declared the best book of the last quarter of a century in Norway.
