Summary
Ante Stamać: Your and my sign
A new book "Your and my sign" by Ante Stamać, edited by Zdravko Gavran, has been published in the Small Library and will try to bring the best and most important poetry of the author who is an important part of the national poetic matrix. In his poetic oeuvre, as a typical representative of the generation of savants and their so-called Intellectual poetry, he is inclined to philosophical consideration of human destiny, deep, almost mystical experience of thematic problematic issues, muted emotionality and, in connection with this, avoiding inspired improvisation and pathetic talent. At the thematic-ideological level, in the center is the anxious poetic subject who is trying to grasp the meaning of existence in the fragmentary interspace of the former unity. Existence without a battle, a world without a center, fragments as the only reality - these are fundamental concepts that emerge from the first collection with a characteristic title, "Rasap" (1962), and continue almost throughout the entire oeuvre in a manneristic manner. The collection "Black Holes, Dark Sonnets" (1995) brings a constant change: God appears as a possibility of resistance to powerful cosmic black holes, God as the creator of a new balance of the world.
