Summary

Meg Rosoff: How I Live Now

Smart and sassy fifteen-year-old Daisy is trying to somehow cope with a new situation that has turned her life upside down: after her mom died, her dad remarried a woman she can't stand, to put it mildly, and her eating disorder takes on increasingly serious proportions. After a series of unsuccessful attempts to help her, her father had no choice but to send her to England for the summer so that she could spend the holidays in a new environment, in the fresh air, with people she had never met: her aunt and cousins who live on a quiet farm outside London. For Daisy, the hitherto unknown England seems like another planet, and her cousins Isaac, Edmond, Osbert and Piper are the most unusual beings she has ever met. Especially Edmond. The next day, the aunt will go on a business trip, and the world they knew until then will disappear in a single second: a bomb has been dropped on London and the country is occupied by an unknown enemy. And while the whirlwind of war sweeps the country, the farm where Daisy lives with her relatives will become like a paradise, a place without obligations and rules imposed by adults, a place where Daisy's relationship with her relatives will grow into something rare and very, very unusual.

Immediately after its release, this unusual novel, which provides a view of the world of a teenage girl in a confusing war environment, secured the writer Meg Rosoff's star status and was crowned with the "Michael L. Printz Award" awards. and "ALA Best Books for Young Adults".
