Summary
Josip Kosor: U Café du Dôme / Rotonda / Humanity
Works 6
The plays U Café du Dôme and Rotonda were created in 1918 during Kosor's stay in Paris, and were named after the Parisian cafes of the same name, known meeting places of the literary and artistic avant-garde. The first one was published in 1922, published by Stjepan Kugli, and the second three years later, in 1925, published by the Zagreb-based Yugoslav newspaper stock company. The play Humanity was written in 1924 in London and Podgora (act five), and it was published by the same publisher in the same year as Rotondo. Na scenu je postavljena samo U Café du Dôme i to u Narodnom pozorištu za Dalmaciju u Splitu, u režiji Rade Pregarca, ali se na repertoaru vrlo kratko zadržala. From the first performance on September 24 to the last performance on November 1, 1922, it was performed only four times. They were also the only editions published during the author's lifetime. Kosor's Parisian plays, U Café du Dôme and Rotonda, were reprinted in 2002 by the same publisher, and the accompanying study was prepared by Luko Paljetak, which can be read along with the book on these same websites.
