Summary

Tomislav Aralica: Historical weapons in Croatia

The topics covered in the book are only a fraction of the great splendor of Croatian historical weapons and military history. It is an indispensable part of our national history, culture and being because we are a nation formed in wars, we lived in wars and survived them. For decades, I have been putting a lot of effort into showing this national wealth of ours, hoping to see the establishment of a real military museum that would encompass older military history as well. It saddens me that there is no such thing in sight. The presentation of the Homeland War (1991 - 1995) in a few museum institutions and permanent displays is commendable, but it is by no means all of our military history.

Therefore, I am dedicating this book to the idea of forming a museum of Croatian military history that would include topics such as the Avar Khaganate, the creation of the early medieval Croatian state and its noble military elite and military power, the alliance with the Hungarians, the Mongol invasion, the fight against The Republic of Venice in the Middle Ages, the internal dynastic wars of the 14th and 15th centuries, the fight against the Ottoman Empire, the invasions of Senj, the Croatian military border, the French and Napoleonic wars, the wars of the 19th century, the First World War and the Second World War.
