Summary
Ivo Andrić: Omerpaša Latas
In addition to being an album of perfectly profiled portraits, a picture of human drama and a fresco of a historical period, "Omerpaša Latas" is a deep and ironically intoned reflection on the artist, his model and work. Although he did not finish the work as a novel, Andrić finished it as a novel idea. If even one of his novels can be said to be a novel of portraits and characters, then the same can rightly be said of "Omerpaša Latas". Compiled according to the principle of connecting novelistic structures into a novel whole, it reads as if flipping through a patinated album of a great painter, in which the images of a distant time are frozen.
